The Highest Heaven is a story of loss and friendship amidst the dust bowl in the 1930s. Set in the southwest United States and Mexico, it follows a young boy as he searches for his mother. Utilizing a small budget, and amidst covid-19 restrictions, the costumes were made to tell the story in a streamlined manner. I designed for 3 of the characters, while my co-designer designed the other 3. Monarch butterflies are used throughout the play as a powerful symbol of hope and migration. I wanted the design of the mother character, Kika, to tie into those ideas of beauty and freedom.
